Republican governor candidate Toby Doeden is on the final swing before the runoff election against Larry Rhoden. During a stop in Huron Doeden spoke to attendees about property taxes. He said the measure going into effect in 2027 doesn’t affect those who need it the most.
Teacher pay along with other state workers are increased by the legislature as part of the budgeting process. Last year Governor Rhoden proposed zero percent increase while the legislature came up with 1.4 percent increase. One year earlier workers received a 1.25 percent increase was added which was only half of the 2.5 percent cost of living increase for the year. Doeden said he has heard from state workers.
The republican run off primary between Toby Doeden and Larry Rhoden is July 28. The winner will face democrat Dan Ahlers in November.
