Repairs to Huron’s Tiger Stadium will lead to schedule changes this fall. The stadium received extensive damage during the July 2nd storm, with one light tower getting blown down and damaging the track and turf below it. Huron School Activities Director Scott DeBoer says further inspection by district personnel, insurance adjustors, engineers, and contractors found potential failure points of the other three towers, and they will be removed.
DeBoer believes the light towers are the original ones from when the stadium opened in the 1970’s. He says the damage to the artificial turf will be repaired by the second week of August.
Tiger Stadium will remain closed until the towers are removed and the turf is repaired. The plan moving forward is playing home soccer and football on the dates scheduled, with soccer doubleheaders starting September 3rd beginning an hour earlier than scheduled at 3pm, and the five home football games kicking off at 4:30pm. Huron’s first home football game is September 11th. DeBoer says this is best available scenario to keep Tiger home events.
DeBoer says the stands on both sides of the field were inspected and no damage was found.
