Next month, a Brookings Area Master Gardener will give away thirty apple trees to local kids.
Over the last seven years, Perry Johnson has given away more than 200 apple trees to children ages six through twelve.
He said that book explores the history of apple trees and explains apple-grafting techniques.
Johnson said the goal isn’t just to plant trees — but also to plant a love for gardening in the hearts of kids.
Distribution of the bare-root, semi-dwarf Honeycrisp apple trees takes place May 16-17 at the Brookings County Outdoor Adventure Center.
Reservations are recommended to ensure availability.
To reserve a tree, adult sponsors of kids ages six to twelve should email Johnson at perbar4@swiftel.net.
