Sioux Falls, SD – As devastating wildfires continue to impact parts of Nebraska, ranchers and their livestock are facing urgent challenges as flames destroy grazing land, feed supplies, and critical infrastructure. In response, the South Dakota Cattlemen’s Foundation has launched a fundraising effort to support relief efforts and assist ranchers in the hardest-hit areas.
The Foundation will match community donations up to a total of $10,000 to help cover the cost of fuel needed to transport critically needed hay from areas across South Dakota to Nebraska. In partnership with the Kingsbury County Cattlemen’s Association, the effort is helping coordinate the movement of hay to ranchers in the hardest-hit areas. This hay will help feed cattle where grazing has been destroyed or severely limited and provide temporary safe spaces for animals displaced by the fires.
“Wildfires don’t respect state lines, and when our neighbors are in crisis, the cattle industry steps up,” said Ryan Eichler, President of the South Dakota Cattlemen’s Foundation. “We’ve been inspired by the generosity already shown across South Dakota and the efforts of the Kingsbury County Cattlemen’s Association to get hay to the hardest-hit areas. This initiative helps ensure ranchers in Nebraska have the resources they need to care for their livestock and begin recovering from this disaster.”
Through the donation match, the South Dakota Cattlemen’s Foundation is helping ensure hay can be transported quickly and efficiently to the areas with the greatest need. Funds raised beyond the cost of fuel will be donated directly to wildfire relief efforts in Nebraska, helping ranchers purchase fencing supplies and address other urgent needs caused by the fires.
