The state Senate Health and Human Services committee this morning (Monday, March 2) advanced a bill requiring schools to show students a three-minute video on prenatal human growth. Schools could choose any video but would be forbidden to show anything referencing abortion.
District 14 state Rep. Tony Kayser, R-Sioux Falls is the bill’s sponsor. He said parents could still opt out of this.
District 15 state Sen. Jamie Smith, D-Sioux Falls, D-Sioux said this is micromanaging.
District 7 state Sen. Tim Reed, R-Brookings asked Kayser who will set the requirements for whether or not a video qualifies.
The committee voted 6-1 to advance the bill to the senate floor with a ‘do pass’ recommendation.
