One of the bills submitted for the 2026 South Dakota Legislature to decide on is HB1021. It deals with the South Dakota State Fair and this time around it is not about a new structure for the fairgrounds. This bill deals with removing out of date structures. Part of the upkeep of the state fairgrounds involves determining what building have outlived their use. State Fair manager Peggy Besch discusses the structures to be addressed in HB1021.
The bill does not request additional funding for the removing. HB1021 has an appropriated $337,000 in other fund expenditure authority to the SD Department of Agriculture that would be use. Besch talks about when the building would be removed.

She said some of the removal would take place before this years state fair.
