While South Dakota legislators may have lots of ideas to deal with property taxes in the 2026 session, finding consensus may be difficult.
District 31 Senator Randy Deibert of Spearfish was a member of the Comprehensive Property Tax Taskforce and says they had a lot of ideas come out of there.
Deibert, a republican, says some of the recommendations do include potential tax increases.
Deibert says there are other ideas that could come back during the regular session.
The changes recommended by the task force could reduce current residential property taxes by twenty-five percent
