Forecasters are starting to call for light accumulating snow this weekend, especially across northeastern South Dakota. It’s a stark reminder that winter weather driving will be upon all of South Dakota soon. South Dakota Department of Transportation Operations Director Craig Smith says they are budgeting approximately 28 million dollars to snow removal…
Smith says they expected to have enough seasonal staff to meet the biggest blizzards if they happen.
Smith says they will look closer this winter about formal closures of non-Interstate highways.
Smith says most of the state’s counties and tribes have signed on to posting secondary road closures to the state’s system.
Todd and Minnehaha are the only counties that have not joined to participate on pushing road conditions to the state’s traveler information website.
