The South Dakota Hall of Fame located at Chamberlain just off I -90 is in the midst of a 4.5 million dollar fundraising campaign for improvements to the Hall. CEO Laurie Becvar covers the details of the drive.
Laurie said the fundraising campaign goes through 2026 and some of the funds will go toward visitor center improvements.
The Hall has a goal this year to attract 5000 visitors, that is well below the other attractions in the area including the 50 foot Dignity Statue at the I-90 rest area and the Akta Lakota Museum at St Joseph Indian school that preserves Lakota culture. Becvar said although the Hall is recognized by the State of South Dakota all of their funding comes from donor support.
The annual induction for the SD Hall of Fame will be September 12. In years past 10 figures have been inducted this year an 11th category has been added with the first historical figure inducted. Dr. Valentine McGillycuddy will be the first historical inductee.
