Following the resignation earlier this year of David Wheeler as District 22 South Dakota Senator, as he moved on to a circuit judge position, that left an open seat on the SD Senate. On Thursday Governor Larry Rhoden announced the appointment of Brandon Wipf to represent district 22 on the South Dakota Senate effectively immediately. Wipf a 2004 graduate of James Valley Christian in Huron talks about what brought him to be interested in the Senate seat.
Brandon comes from an agricultural background farming north of Huron with his parents. He said the timeline fits well for serving in the state legislature.
Agriculture is the top revenue source in South Dakota. Wipf said stepping into the senate seat will increase the agriculture presence in the state legislature.
With the next legislative session several months away Wipf said that gives him plenty of time to get up to speed for his seat on the Senate.
New District 22 South Dakota Senator Brandon Wipf, district 22 includes Beadle, Spink and portions of Clark County.
