Another discussion in the sidewalk to no where controversy in Huron at Monday nights commission meeting. Sidewalks are required for new construction though there have been times when that has not been enforced. Craig Metzger came before the city commission in reference a new home built north of 14th street north along Iowa avenue. Craig presented a variance request to not have sidewalk installed on the stretch along 14th street but put in place on the 3 lots that his home sits along Iowa avenue. City planner Barry Cranston said there have been times where the variance did take place.
Nearing the end of a lengthy discussion commissioner Shawn Harvey had these comments.
Two issues were voted on by the commission one would give Metzger until December 31 2025 to decide to install sidewalks on the west side of Iowa avenue for lots 8, 9 and 10 in front of his property and on the south side of his home along 14th street. In the second issue two addition lots to the north of Metzger’s home which he owns would not require sidewalks until pending additional development. A staunch supporter of the sidewalk ordinance Mayor Mark Robish voted no on that measure. Both measures were approved.
