The Project Prison Reset Task Force has shot down the top two proposed locations for a new men’s penitentiary. A consultant’s top recommendation was a controversial site in Lincoln County, with a site near Huron coming in second.
Those two sites were eliminated last night by the Task Force, along with several others. The group also scaled back the maximum price of any new facilities from 825-million down to 600-million dollars. Those moves produced a quick endorsement from Task Force member Attorney General Marty Jackley.
Remaining sites open for consideration are Mitchell and Worthing, and land adjoining the current prison facilities in Sioux Falls and Springfield
