On Saturday morning residents near the fairgrounds may notice some smoke but don’t be alarmed it is part of scheduled training organized by the Huron Fire Department. City of Huron Public Safety commissioner Shawn Harvey had a reminder for residents at the Monday city commission meeting.
The training for the Huron Fire Department part is a part of several buildings to be taken down due to the age of the structures. State Fair manager Peggy Besch said the space in two areas of the fairgrounds will have other uses. She said the structures go back many years.
Peggy said the removal of the quonset buildings may take more time with a lot of events this year on the South Dakota State Fairgrounds. No additional money was spent to remove the buildings as it was part of already allocated funding. It was part of HB1021 this year at the legislature. Freshman Senator Brandon Wipf talks about presenting that bill.
The training will take place Saturday morning at the red barns in the north east area of the South Dakota State Fairgrounds on livestock avenue.
