A new phase in the conflict between the United States and Iran is unfolding as Washington pushes for international support to safeguard one of the world’s most critical oil routes. During recent remarks, President Donald Trump called on allied nations to assist in securing the Strait of Hormuz, warning that disruptions in the narrow waterway could threaten global energy supplies.
The request came as fighting between U.S. and Iranian forces moved into its third week. U.S. officials said additional strikes on Iran’s Kharg Island remain possible. The island serves as a major hub for Iran’s oil exports, making it a strategic point in the ongoing confrontation.
Iran signaled it would intensify its response. Iranian authorities said the country plans to expand retaliatory actions, including the use of missiles and drones. Military activity around key shipping lanes has already increased, raising concerns about the safety of commercial vessels moving through the region.
Energy markets are watching closely. The Strait of Hormuz handles a large share of global oil shipments, and any disruption could quickly ripple through international markets.
Diplomatic efforts to ease the standoff have not yet produced a clear path toward de-escalation.
