The state House Taxation committee today (Tuesday, Feb. 17) advanced a measure that would increase sales taxes in order to both reduce property taxes and give more money to schools, healthcare providers and state employees.
District 6 state Rep. Tim Czmowski (ZIMS-mow-ski), R-Sioux Falls is prime sponsor of House Bill 1308.
He said this would make housing more affordable.
Derek Johnson with the state Bureau of Finance and Management testified against the bill, saying it imposes a statewide solution to local problems.
The committee voted 10-2 (with one excused) to advance the bill to the full house floor with a ‘do pass’ recommendation.
