The 2026 South Dakota Legislative session begins next month. It is the first session for newly appointed District 22 Senator Brandon Wipf. This past Summer a study committee focused on the ongoing issue of property taxes and forwarded 19 proposals to consider in the legislature. Brandon does not put a lot of confidence in any of the proposals.
The governors budget address earlier in December proposed no increase in pay for teachers, some healthcare workers and all state workers. Brandon said legislators understand the tight budget concerns but are hopeful to come up with a better option.
The South Dakota 2026 Legislative session begins January 13th.
