The Oldham-Ramona-Rutland school district narrowly survives a vote aimed at dissolving it.
An election Tuesday (Dec. 16) resulted in a tie — 363 votes for and 363 votes against a reorganization plan that would have dissolved the school district.
Five provisional votes remained, and after election officials examined those Wednesday (Dec. 17) to determine if they were correctly cast by registered voters in the district, the total shifted.
At a canvassing meeting Wednesday night, school board member Lori Hyland made the motion to declare the election results official.
According to the canvas results,78% of Ramona voters were against reorganization while 70% of Oldham voters and 58% of Rutland voters favored reorganizing.
Voter turnout was 69% — 730 of 1053 registered voters cast their ballots in the election.
The vote to reorganize had required a simple majority to pass, so the district will remain intact for now.
