The National Weather Service has released its forecast for the upcoming winter for the region that includes South Dakota.
Laura Edwards is South Dakota’s State Climatologist. She says a developing La Nina over the Pacific Ocean will influence our meteorological winter which runs from December into March.
She says slightly wetter than average conditions are forecast for the region as well.
Edwards pointed out the last several La Nina winters we’ve had started out fairly mild and ended cold, mostly in February.
