The annual Governors Awards recognizing the achievements of individuals with disabilities, outstanding employers and dedicated South Dakotans was held Wednesday in Pierre. This year 4 individuals and 3 organizations were honored. Cabinet Secretary of the Department of Human Services Shawnie Rechtenbaugh introduced the event.
Governor Larry Rhoden spoke of the impact of the recipients.
One of the recipients this year is a Pierre resident and former head of Greater Huron Development Corporation, Shawn Lyons. He now works with the SD Game Fish and Parks in Pierre. Kevin Robling Secretary of the GF and P introduced Shawn.
Shawn’s remarks in acceptance of the award came from his “monthly musings” segment aired on his Facebook page.
The Governor’s Awards are presented in partnership with the South Dakota Department of Human Services, the Board of Vocational Rehabilitation, the Board of Service to the Blind and Visually Impaired, and the Statewide Independent Living Council.
