A mentoring program started by former University of Nebraska football coach Tom Osborne in 1991 has expanded to the Huron School District. Teammates is a school based mentoring program that added Stanley County school district in September and earlier this week in Huron to an expanding program statewide. Jess Karim, State Director for Teammates of South Dakota said the program starts at the high school level.
The program is aided by community members as mentors to inspire students to reach their full potential she tells what is asked of mentors.
Teammates is now in 185 communities across Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas Wyoming and South Dakota. Jess said the program received early support from smaller districts in South Dakota.
Teammates is currently available at the Huron High School, students interested should contact the principal’s office.
