PIERRE, S.D. – During the 2025 Governor’s Awards Ceremony, Governor Larry Rhoden will recognize the outstanding contributions of individuals and businesses who are working to build stronger communities by advancing employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities across South Dakota.
The event, which is open to the public, will be held Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 11 a.m. CDT in the Capitol Rotunda in Pierre.
This year’s honorees include four individuals and three employers who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to ensuring that people with disabilities have equal opportunities to thrive in the workplace:

Jim Hoxie, Spearfish – Outstanding Individual with a Disability;
•
Shawn Lyons, Pierre – Outstanding Employee with a Disability;
•
Eagle Butte Co-op Association, Eagle Butte – Outstanding Private Employer (Small);
•
Ken’s SuperFair Foods, Aberdeen – Outstanding Private Employer (Large);
•
City of Belle Fourche, Belle Fourche – Outstanding Public Employer;
•
Steve Hilton, Piedmont – Outstanding Transition Services; and
•
Sandy Neyhart, Sturgis – Distinguished Service.
The Governor’s Awards are presented in partnership with the South Dakota Department of Human Services, the Board of Vocational Rehabilitation, the Board of Service to the Blind and Visually Impaired, and the Statewide Independent Living Council.
