Changes coming soon to the South Dakota “move over law”. You may have seen a story stating that penalties to the law would cause penalties similar to driving under the influence in South Dakota. Sgt Shane Snyder with the Huron squad of the South Dakota Highway Patrol states the provisions of the move over law.
Laws concerning driving change from time to time but Snyder said the move over law has been on the books for some time and he is still surprised that some drivers don’t know.
While traveling you may observe a vehicle with a hood up or someone changing a tire on the side of the road. Snyder said the provisions of the move over law are good to keep in mind in that situation. He states a good reminder for the traveling public.
Remember if approaching an emergency vehicle from any direction that is using the Red visual signals you should stop before reaching the stopped emergency vehicle unless otherwise directed. Proceed with caution only after determining that it is safe to do so. New provisions of the “move over law” go into effect July 1st.
